An 18th century adjustable floorstanding rushlight from Clontibret,Co.Monaghan
This rushlight is illustrated in John Caspall fire and light in the home.fig 443-4
And was sold at sothebys Nyetimber manor sale Olympia London 27th sept 2001 lot 1130 .
The candle socket to top ,rectangular jaw and open rolled sockets are typical of this region.
Round section stem stands upon a tripod base with adjustable nip and socket.
Two candle sockets were possibly used for lace making,where extra illumination would be of an advantage,for close intricate work.
